Policy Statement

This event is being organised by a local committee of musicians and jazz fans.

Our aim is to promote jazz on the Isle of Wight. Members of the committee will not receive any financial reward. Inspected accounts will be made on request.

The committee will cover the cost of the main venues and headline acts. This will be funded by sponsorship, ticket sales and other fund-raising activities.

Any subsequent profits will go towards funding future events and a donation to charity (IW Mountbatten Hospice).

We will encourage other performances during the period. However, we will not act as agents. It will be the responsibility of the performers and venues to negotiate between themselves.

Tipitina

It doesn't often happen, and that's putting it mildly. When was the last time a bundle of youthful energy, polished musicianship and originality like Tipitina landed on the mat unannounced? It's quite disconcerting.

'Where did this suddenly come from?' you ask. The prosaic reply is Preston, Lancs, but the real answer is New Orleans and a few other hot spots along the way; from juke joints and dance halls, warm nights and windy streets, good times remembered and a few bad moments best forgotten.

"A wholly admirable album, the youthful energy, sincerity and obvious affection for the New Orleans style is captivating - a sure-fire club and festival attraction"
- Jazz Journal

"To capture the spirit of New Orleans so fully, from a base in the North West of England is a spectacular achievement"
- The Guardian

"Instantly recognisable, Tipitina are really on to something"
- Paul Jones, BBC Radio 2

2009 was the year that Tipitina shot from obscurity with an acclaimed debut album and a series of tremendous live shows.

New Orleans good-time blues, barrelhouse, gospel and rhythm & blues, the voice of Debbie Jones and the piano of Justin Randall is what it's all about.
