Policy Statement

This event is being organised by a local committee of musicians and jazz fans.

Our aim is to promote jazz on the Isle of Wight. Members of the committee will not receive any financial reward. Inspected accounts will be made available on request.

The committee will cover the cost of the main venues and headline acts. This will be funded by sponsorship, ticket sales and other fund-raising activities.

Any subsequent profits will go towards funding future events.

We will encourage other performances during the period. However, we will not act as agents. It will be the responsibility of the performers and venues to negotiate between themselves.

Solent City Jazzmen

Solent City JazzmenEmbracing their years of experience and skill the Jazzmen recreate the intimate atmosphere of an old Orleans Jazz club.
The Solent City Jazzmen are: These guys have all played since boyhood and have been/ are members of other bands more or less well known, and toured jazz clubs and venues throughout the UK and abroad, particularly Switzerland. Cuff Billet is particularly renowned and made many recordings with famous names. Chris on piano was in at the very beginning with most of the others being members in the '60s. Cole Mathieson of Concorde Club fame was the original drummer.

The band was formed locally in 1959 by Mick Erridge, now sadly deceased since 1990 and started playing at the Portswood Hotel in Bevois Valley. They have been entertaining audiences all over the UK for many years, and show no signs of slowing down yet!
